So Shaw/Blades was back through my area recently. They had two shows booked about equal distance from where I live. One was in a small seated venue where I had seen them before and the other was in a venue I frequent but its much bigger and not seated. I op'd for the larger venue as to see something different. This was definitely different and better in the aspect that we could move around and the stage was bigger for the artist. The stage had couches, lava lamps, incense burning, etc This atmosphere made this acoustic show in a large room cozy. The only problem was for me, it wasn't great for photography. I was very disapointed with what I came home with this time.
The set was similar to the one I had seen before but different stories were told between songs which really made a difference considering many of the group had seen the duo before on their previous jaunt. They threw in a Christmas song as well as a song that was written for Howard Stern. They had recently been on the Howard Stern show and re-wrote a song that was sent in by a fan for Howard. It was for/about Beth, Howard's fiancee. Tommy and Jack told the story about the song and also that the person that wrote the original had recently died.
Seeing these two is always a "Storytellers" night. Of course these two always have an interesting story to tell about Ted Nugent. Poor Ted isn't there to defend himself! Well this night Jack got Tommy real good as he had brought out on stage a large poster made up of an old photo of Tommy in roller skates. Watch out Jack, you are next!
Musically, it's great to hear these songs that we grew up listening to stripped down in an acoustic setting as well as being able to see artists such as Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades in such an intimate setting. If you were ever a fan of any of the bands these two have been in or just love good music, go see them; it is definitely worth it.
Thank you to Amanda for setting this up.
