Those Red Jumpsuit Apparatus boys just keep showing us what a talented group of guys they are. After having been on the road basically for the past two years, they recently spent a couple of months working on new songs. Instead of heading directly into the studio, they embarked on an acoustic tour of small venues. When I say small, I mean small. In order to keep ticket prices down to around 10 dollars, these venues are like 150 capacity; for a fan of theirs, what a night to be had.
The tour kicked off in Baltimore and it was Baltimore's own version of VH1's storytellers. Up first was an unsigned band, Amaru, from RJA''s home town of Jacksonville FL. This was their first tour and they did their set acoustic as well. For those in the music know, yes that bassist looked very familiar; it was Brad Stewart formerly of Shinedown. Great to catch up with him after the show. The band sounded great acousticlly. Definitely have to check them out in their fully plugged in version.
The venue had been packed halfway through Amaru's set with many moving in and out of the front area as people jockied for positions before RJA took the stage. With every one of their songs catchy and well known by their fans, the crowd was singing along from the first words. The set list was about 8 songs long with a Q&A listed in the middle. A bit scary when you open up the floor to the crowd to ask questions and yes there was that always asked question "Will you marry me?" (sorry girls, Ronnie is married). For the most part it was a break for the band instead of an informational period for the fans. As the tour progresses it would be interesting to hear the variety of questions that are asked.
If you get a chance, go see this tour. The acoustic tour ends the beginning of May. Afterwards RJA is off to England and then they will be recording their new album. For those catching the band at Bamboozle on May 3rd, they will be performing a new song.
