One cannot think of pop music of the 70s and 80s without a mention of Daryl Hall & John Oates. The duo began their careers together in the early 70s and hit the top ten for the first time with "Sara Smiles" in 1976. The duo went on to have six #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: "Rich Girl", "Kiss on My List", "Private Eyes", "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", "Maneater" and "Out of Touch", as well as many other songs that charted in the Top 40. They have sold over 80 million albums worldwide as well as have written songs that other artists have made popular such as: "She's Gone" which was covered by Lou Rawls and Tavares and "Everytime You Go Away" which was a Billboard number hit in 1985 by Paul Young. The duo released a CD/DVD Live at The Troubadour late last year and are still touring today. They made a stop in Baltimore at Ramshead Live! on March 6th to a packed house.

The brick back wall of the venue was a perfect backdrop to the casual set up with Daryl Hall and John Oates both sitting on stools for the semi-acoustic/plugged in set. This was a night of music that the crowd was very familiar with but there were certain nuances to the songs that made them a bit different live. That's the great thing about live music and with artists such as these that have been honing their craft for years, it's great to see and hear something different than what one hears on the radio. Sonically, they are still at the top of their game and that's not something you can say for all of those that were pop stars in the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately the crowd wasn't one that was up on the rules of concert going. Maybe more of them should pay attention to the youth of today who seem to have more manners. It's one thing to sing along with the band, it's another to just have a running conversation about something totally unrelated during the show. Take it outside. Sorry, had to bring that up. After being at the club the previous night for the sold out Dropkick Murphys, have to say the drunk Irish fans were more civilized, even the drunk one that was in my face while I was trying to photograph.
