You don't have to have a number one album sit atop of the charts for weeks on end (well their recent release did debut at #5 on Billboards Album Chart)or have a hot single being played on the radio every hour to have a great following. Chiodos has proven that. Currently on tour supporting their recently released album Bone Palace Ballet, the band made a stop in Baltimore at Ramshead Live! on November 18th. The venue was packed, not just packed, sold out! Considering how albums and concert ticket sales have been over the past couple of years, that is a feat in itself.
Tonight was a Warped Tour crowd's dream lineup - The Devil Wears Prada, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Anberlin, Emery and of course Chiodos. Each band brought its following and all of those mixed and mingled together. It wasn't like the nights where one band plays and the crowd leaves as the next section moves in to listen to their band. These fans were here for all of the bands. Also, the average age here was probably 16 with some parents hanging out at the bar while their kids were in the pit. Pit I said? Yes pit. This crowd was as crazy one gets for most of the shows that I attend even though the average age was lower. There were plenty of kids coming over the barricade and most were girls! I even helped the security guys catch one! Score one for me.
Chiodos is one of those bands that even though they scream, there is so much more to their material than just the screaming. True they have the lyrical content of the emo bands out there that cover love and relationships along with loss of those such topics but they cross that genre and add the screaming as well as these guys can actually play and are quite entertaining while they do just that! There was just an energy coming from the stage; it was neverending and that was reflected in the crowd in front of the stage. These kids hung on every word and sang every word along with the band. Such passion. Even if you weren't a fan of the band when you arrived, you left with respect for this band.
Special thanks to Bari for setting this one up. Had a great time even though I really felt old this night!
