A few months ago, Avenged Sevenfold had to cancel a string of dates due their front man M. Shadows' vocal problems. The Baltimore show was rescheduled for December 9th and EarplugsRequired.com was there for that show as well as the following night's show.
Now the makeup show should have been smooth sailing, but things started off with a delay of an hour and as the night went along, rumors started flying. Local openers Shift played as well as A7X's tour mates, Burn Halo and then A7X's guitarist Synyster Gates came out on stage and explained that M. Shadows had been at the hospital this evening and that yes, A7X was going to play, but it wouldn't be until 11:30 pm. The crowd that had been antsy prior with the delays now had some information and went back to drinking and talking while waiting for A7X to take the stage.
The set kicked off around 11:40 p.m. and even though their singer had spent the evening in the hospital(you could still see his hospital wristband), the band did not disappoint. Starting off with "Critical Acclaim", the set was very heavy with tracks from their current album including "Almost Easy", "Afterlife", "Scream", "Gunslinger", "Dear God" and ended with "A Little Piece of Heaven". While I love this album, with all the songs that they have, it would have been great to have a better mix of songs or a longer set. It's time in their careers to branch out a bit more and also remember those fans that got them where they are today. Granted their songs aren't short little 2 - 3 minute songs but still, give your fans more.
The second night was on time with local openers, Burn the Fields, kicking off the night. Burn Halo again was direct support with Avenged Sevenfold starting on time and finishing around 10:30 p.m., which was much earlier than the night before. The second night’s set was a bit of a change with M. Shadows saying that this goes out to those that were here the night before and started "Chapter Four". Other changes in the set were the inclusion of "Seize the Day" instead of "Dear God" and they added Pantera's "Walk" as well. For "Walk", M. Shadows asked for someone from the crowd to come up on stage and sing the song. This is something that can really backfire but not tonight; the girl he choose did a nice job. Again the night ended with "A Little Piece of Heaven" and even with the issues the night before, it was two great nights of Avenged Sevenfold for Baltimore.
